Majorette is a French diecast company, Majorette became the main French manufacturer of Matchbox sized miniature vehicles. The company has generally focused on everyday French and European models, and the main toy competition was Matchbox.

Today article is on the first of my Majorette collection, the Neoplan Jetliner coach.

This come in more colours and liveries than I have space to list in this article, but you could start a collection of these alone (see Google image search).

Mine is a restored re-paint with added detail and scaled at 1:87 or HO railway scale (3.5mm to the foot) although I have seen this listed as 1:67 which I believe to be a mistake, Majorette numbered this one #373.

The real coach

The company was founded by Gottlob Auwärter in Stuttgart in 1935 and manufactured bodywork for bus and truck chassis.

In 1971, the Cityliner was introduced to the public. This design had a passenger platform above the driver’s cab, and included an onboard toilet. The vehicle also made use, of glass-fibre reinforced plastic for certain areas of the body, this was the first instance when this technique was used. In 1973, the Jetliner was introduced, featuring a large one-piece windshield, with the driver and door windows sloping from the passenger window line down to the bottom of the windshield level.

In 2001, NEOPLAN, or correctly, “Gottlob Auwärter GmbH & Co KG” was acquired by MAN AG subsidy MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG to form NEOMAN Bus GmbH
