The fourth model in the Atlas edition Dinky replica range is number 555, the Ford Thunderbird.

A great depiction of this rare Dinky model

fordthunderbird2

The original Dinky model was only available for a couple of years, making it one of the rarest of the Dinky models.

The replica made by Atlas is spot on, and done in the rare colour of cornflower blue, the Dinky version was first issued in 1969 in France and the most common colour was an all over metallic lime green, all the boxes show the car in red regardless of the contents.

The real car

TR2

The Triumph TR2 is a sports car produced by the Standard Motor Company in the United Kingdom between 1953 and 1955, during which time 8,636 cars were produced.

triumphTR2real1

The TR2 was designed to challenge MG in the sports car export market to North America.[It was also built because Sir John Black, the boss of the Standard Motor Company, made a bid for the Morgan Motor Company and failed. Triumph already made the Triumph Roadster, but it was out-dated and under-powered. Sir John Black wanted an affordable sports car, so he initiated a prototype to be built. The chassis was a shortened version of the Standard Eight’s and the engine was the Standard Vanguard 2-litre, around which a two-seater body was created. Named the 20TS, it was revealed at the 1952 London Motor Show.

Today, my second sample of the new Atlas Editions, Dinky range has arrived, number 482, Bedford 12cwt van.

AtlasdinkyBedford1

Again as with the Mini Traveller, the quality is amazing and attention to detail spot on.

AtlasdinkyBedford2

This is one series I will continue to collect  as to me, these represent the best of British Dinky diecast.

AtlasdinkyBedford3

The more common liveries done by Dinky was ‘Kodak’  also yellow and ‘Ovaltine’ in blue, the Atlas colour scheme and livery of ‘Dinky Toys’ was also done, haven’t seen many but the picture I found below of an original Dinky van with box was up for sale at £120.00 and have seen them listed in mint condition with box for over £200.00.

Today, my first sample of the new Atlas Editions, Dinky range has arrived and what a model.

It comes with it’s own reproduction box and certificate of authenticity that this is an original replica of the much older Dinky Mini.

dinkymini1

I have never seen an original Dinky mini in this condition , let alone owned one but Atlas have done a remarkable job even down to the tin plate base plate and wheels and tyres that echo the style and finish of the original car.

dinkymini3

The painting and detail is superb and can’t be faulted and even the colour of the plastic yellow interior look right for the period this would of been available from Dinky toys.

dinkymini2

I’ve restored original Dinky toys and owned quite a few over the years but even though these are not original as such is the nearest you may ever get to owning a series that faithfully reproduces all the finer detail you would of expected from the Dinky brand of the day and in brilliant mint condition.

dinkymini4

The Dinky brand is owned by Mattel and this range is  made for Atlas Editions by Norev.

I will certainly be looking at more of these models in the near future.

To get your own Dinky Mini Traveller and start your collection, visit the Atlas Editions website below.

I’ve seen these going for £20.00 upwards on Ebay, although I can’t fathom why when you can go directly to the Atlas website and get this wonderful model for just £1.99
