Where did the last year go? September 2018 and another exhibition in Enfield for Lone star
As always my small collection was on display.
A few new additions since last year along with the electric rotating turntable in the centre of the picture below, ran all day without issues.
The space commanders, construction and farm section is much the same as last year.
Great show again although did notice a lack of Treblo electric Lone star train layouts, so during the day I decided to build one for next year, to that end I bought my first lot of track and rolling stock for Lone Star Treblo electric.
This project will be quite secretive as I want the unveiling next September and I know certain people may otherwise see what I’m up to before then, although some updates will be posted.
As far as Husky goes most of the one’s I had as a kid were trucks, now is no different and still like my trucks, back in the 60′s Husky released their version of the Ford F350 recovery truck and as far as I know was one of the only diecast makers to replicate this model.
The Ford wrecker was No 28 and was available in blue, I’m not sure if any other colour was released but knowing what I do about Husky no doubt there was, Later when Corgi took over the Husky brand and renamed them Corgi Juniors this was still released in blue albeit a different shade, the only real difference was the change of the wheels to tyres on wheels from the old grey or black Husky one’s.
Husky also released a Camper also based on the Ford F350 and likely to of been the same casting, with a chrome camper body with an opening door at the back, this also had an interior fitted, this was No35 and was released in yellow and chrome in 1967, later it was available as a Corgi Junior in blue with chrome body and also green with a cream plastic body
Husky also made a tower truck version of this casting too.

The real truck
From 1964 on, only the traditional separate cab and bed arrangement were available. Power was over 200 hp (150 kW) with the 1965 update of the powertrain. In 1965, the Twin I-Beam front suspension was introduced with coil springs and the 300 replaced the 223. 1965 also marked the beginning of a completely different chassis and many parts from 65-79 interchange such as brakes and motor mounts. The 1965 and 1966 trucks have a “TWIN I-BEAM” emblem on the front fender. A 4-door crew cab version was also introduced in 1965, still a popular option.
The Camper Special was built heavier for the slide in campers that were becoming increasingly popular during this time.
As this was a sturdy reliable truck many were used for farms and general use, a few body types can be seen below.
Ford still call there trucks F350 and usually denotes the bigger model options.

Today we look at some of the ‘concept’ vehicles created by Matchbox in the way of trucks and transporters, not that long back I did an article on the futuristic Matchbox Adventure 2000 series which now leads to possible concepts.
I don’t know if Matchbox actually modelled these on real vehicles or inspired by them, but during the 70′s many way out designs emerged from Matchbox as well as others.
These are the later King Size models with Superfast wheels and named Super Kings.
The first vehicle is the Matchbox racing car transporter, Number K7 and released in 1972
There were two casting variations to this one, mine below is the earlier one, the later one had the side glass bar on the cab removed.
It takes a single racing car and has great body lines that would still look good if released today as a transporter, the gull wing doors on the living/workshop space is great too.
My one has been paired with a formula 1 race car from Corgi Juniors
This cab design was used for the Matchbox Tractor transporter No K21
The second Transporter has also been used more than once, this one being the Matchbox Pickup Truck K6 and supplied with a Honda motorbike known as the Matchbox Hondarora No18 from the 1-75 Superfast range both released in 1974
I have seen a version with an engine sticking out of the bonnet but not sure whether this is a later release or the first version.
This pickup was also released as a recovery truck and numbered K11, on both base plates they are known as ‘K6/11 pickup truck’ so was a common baseplate and body
