This article is about one of the most famous rally cars and a popular road car, the Subaru Impreza and today we have another comparison.

Firstly the Majorette Subaru Imprezza WRX, this is one of the later models released in 2001 and still going, Majorette’s are now made in Thailand like many of our well loved makers that are still left, but unlike the earlier Majorette diecast these have sucumbed like many other to the plastic bases blacked out windows and lack of interior.

But saying that it is still a nice diecast copy of the Subaru, this has been seen listed as 1:64 scale but in fact the base plate tells me it’s actually 1:57 scale, Numbered 275a by Majorette.

Fantastic colour blue with gold wheels and have also seen this in white and silver paint.

I was after the WRC Rally livery version and later found this one sealed on the card, so has remained sealed for now, it is exactly the same as the one above with the addition of the rally decals.

Next we have a relatively unknown maker called Carisma Models and marketed as AutoRozza, Carisma is a Hong Kong based company which produced a small range of models in 1:64 scale. They were made in China and sold almost exclusively to the Japanese market, therefore are difficult to source elsewhere, but they do turn up in places like Ebay, This is number 64012.

But the car is impressive.

The detail is amazing for a small model, and this is 1:64 scale so slightly smaller than the Majorette version, it has a detailed interior, correctly styled wheels, all the lights are plastic rather than painted on and is in the WRC rally livery, or to be more precise, WRC from 2003 in Australia, No8 Makinen.

I’ve said it before but the far east makers really have got the detail down to a fine art and will certainly be looking out for more and would put this model on par with Oxford Diecast 1:72 range

To see the two together see the pictures below.

1:64 scale versus 1:57 scale

The Realtoy version below is based on the 2006 model Subaru Impreza WRX and also scales at 1:57.

Also, I have one other Subaru, not diecast this time but my favourite Scalextic car, also an Impreza and now a rare colour and model, the later addition was in blue.

The real car

In the late 1980s, Subaru created the Subaru Tecnica International (STI) division to coordinate development for the FIA World Rally Championship and other motorsports activities. After the company had grown, the division was used to create high-performance consumer versions of the Subaru Impreza WRX, an all-wheel drive car with a turbocharged boxer engine, leading to the development of the Impreza WRX STi. The Subaru World Rally Team has used a race-prepared version of the WRX STI as its rally platform since the model trim’s creation.

Latest news

As some of the readers here know, one of the things I do is make display bases and plinths as well and base boards for dioramas etc, and have sold many of the solid oak display bases

There is now a new product, so new it’s not even on the website yet and so pleased with the result.

This is a display base for Scalextric and other slot cars based on a piece of real Scalextric classic track and has a solid oak surround with an MDF core.

To our knowledge, we are the only workshop making these unique and original bases

The one below is the first one so isn’t yet coated with the satin finish or the green baize on the bottom.

Below shown with my own Scalextric Subaru in pride of place.

For more information on my bases contact me

At the moment these are special order only and details will be on the website soon :)

I have been slowly selling all of my classic Scalextric including the cars as I am looking to upgrade to digital, I love the idea of lane changing making it ideal for police chases as well as a more realistic racing format.

Above are my two Audi TT’s, two Porsche Boxsters, a beetle and my personal favourite The Subaru Impreza.

More updates as they happen.
