Schylling is an American toy company that was founded in 1975 by Jack Schylling, who started his business as a street vendor. The company specializes in making classic toys and tin toy reproductions.

One of the first pictures I had seen of this series was on Ebay

Schylling1

This is the King Jet 8 car, when it arrived the packing intrigued me as it seemed there were at least another two to collect.

Schylling2

Since that time only one other has come up for sale and that is the Pulse car seen below with the King Jet 8

Schylling3

I have since found this picture below and still search for the remaining two tinplate cars to complete the set.

This is a make of toy I had never heard of before buying this one and is made in  the Czech Republic.

These are scaled at 1:43 and is actually a very nice example.

VW1

This ambulance is numbered 0613.

VW2

A second model I have is 0611 T2 pick-up.

As can be seen from the picture below there are a few to collect.

The real vehicle

The Volkswagen Type 2, known officially (depending on body type) as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus, or, informally, as the Bus (US) or Camper (UK), is a cabover panel van introduced in 1950 by the German automaker Volkswagen as its second car model. Following – and initially deriving from Volkswagen’s first model, the Type 1 (Beetle) – it was given the factory designation Type 2.

I don’t have a lot of tinplate toys but have always had a love of the brightly coloured space and sci-fi toys including robots, this one came my way recently, and embodies all of the above.

tinplate1

This one has the box and is marked as Metalmania MF742 and made in China.

As with many tinplate toys this has a friction drive with a clacking sound.

tinplate2

There is another I found listed on the internet called the flying boat, is similar but has a rubber pilots head instead of the robot, interestingly enough this is also marked as MF742.

Flyingboat

These are 330mm long

Another similar toy is only 190mm, called the Rocket Racer with the model number as MF735 and this particular one has a rubber head too.

It does seem the plastic or rubber head is a common addition to many of the modern tinplate toys, another I have is a motorbike and sidecar, little is known about the maker, who I believe is QSN. Note the similar head as in the flying boat above

AmarToy is a Delhi based manufacturer in India.

This example came my way recently and is about 235mm long.

They seem to come in many colours including metallics and although not particularly old (made sometime in the eighties) is a nice item in my collection.

It’s based on the Pontiac 1954 Minister Delux, and has friction drive.

I’ve read many reports this is a copy of the much nicer Japanese toy by Asahi (ATC) of a 1954 Pontiac Star Chief, even so it’s still a nice tinplate car.
